Job seekers flocked to a recent recruitment event in Newark for the Workforce Development Center鈥檚 Automotive Technician Employment and Training Program, which prepares trainees with both technical and career skills.
Rodney Brutton, Director of Workforce Development, presented an overview of the program to more than 70 attendees and NCC CEO Richard Rohrman gave remarks at the Meet And Greet held at NCC鈥檚 state-of-the-art Automotive Training Center at 210 West Bigelow St.
Attendees like Dejon Thompson, 26, met with prospective employers from the automotive industry that hire graduates who successfully complete the 1,200-hour training course.
鈥淚 see that they (NCC) are partners with a lot of companies,鈥� said Thompson, a Newark resident and recently hired NCC security officer who has applied for the auto program. 鈥淚t鈥檒l be easier to get a job.鈥�
Travis Walker, Fixed Operations Director at Sansone Auto, urged job seekers to take advantage of NCC鈥檚 training program. Thanks to a $260,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the course is being offered at no cost.
鈥淭he potential in the car business is astronomical,鈥� Walker said, describing various career opportunities in the auto industry.
