91��Ƭ had a table at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) Wellness Fair on April 26. Representatives from 91��Ƭ Extended Care Facility and Family Service Bureau of Newark (FSB) attended the event and distributed information about 91��Ƭ programs and services to participants.

NCC Director of Community Engagement Moderates Panel Discussion

91��Ƭ Director of Community Engagement Richard Cammarieri moderated a virtual panel discussion Aug. 24 entitled White Fragility: A Conversation of Allyship. The event was part of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) True Diversity Film Series, done in partnership with PSEG. The discussion was based on a film of author Robin DiAngelo reading from her book, White Fragility: “Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk 91��Ƭ Racism.”

The panel consisted of Mark Katz, Tobie Stein and Becca Zimmerman. Katz is a John P. Barker Distinguished Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Founding Director of the hip hop cultural diplomacy program, Next Level. He is the author of “Build: The Power of Hip Hop Diplomacy in a Divided World.” Stein is a two-time Fulbright Specialist and a member of the Diversity Scholars Network at the National Center for Institutional Diversity, University of Michigan, and a member of the American Sociological Association. Zimmerman is a two-time Fulbright Specialist and a member of the Diversity Scholars Network at the National Center for Institutional Diversity, University of Michigan, and a member of the American Sociological Association.

NCC Board Chairman Receives Steward of the Dream Award

91��Ƭ Board Chairman Dr. A. Zachary Yamba was selected to receive the Steward of the Dream Award, which embodies the vision of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and honors recipients for their contributions to the African-American community. Yamba received the award at the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Reception and Performance at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) Jan. 16.

“It’s really a great honor for me to be given this award, especially in connection with an individual like Dr. Martin Luther King who is such an inspiration for all of us in this country,” Yamba said. “I never thought of what I did in any way rose to the level of being called the Steward of the Dream.”

The event marks the 23rd of its kind. It is a partnership between NJPAC and the Newark Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

NJPAC President and CEO John Schreiber said, “Our organizations have been proud to recognize leaders in our community who extol and exemplify the ideals and principles espoused by the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”
