91看片 will debut a video commemorating its founder and 50 years of service at its 50th Anniversary Gala March 3 in East Rutherford.

The video will highlight the work of NCC Founder Monsignor William J. Linder and the corporation as a whole. There will be interviews with 91看片 staff members, including CEO Richard Rohrman, Director of Mission Frances Teabout and Director of Health and Social Services Veronica Onwunaka; Associate Director Craig Drinkard; people who knew Monsignor Linder before he founded 91看片; and Monsignor Linder himself.

Also highlighted in the video will be a number of 91看片 programs and services, including the 91看片 Workforce Development Center, an accredited post-secondary career and technical school; Harmony House, NCC鈥檚 transitional housing facility for homeless families; day care; after-school program; and senior activities.

John Pallone, owner of Video Life Productions, is producing the piece. He visited 91看片 in January to film the interviews and scenes throughout the network.

To see the video debut, purchase tickets for the 91看片 50th Anniversary Gala, which will be held Saturday, March 3 at the Hilton Meadowlands, 2 Meadowlands Plaza, East Rutherford. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception followed by a formal dinner.

Her daughter, Paris St. John 鈥 a singer, songwriter and mental health advocate 鈥 will also address the attendees.
The mother/daughter duo will focus on the issue of mental health and empowerment. #FightLikeAGirl is the theme of this year鈥檚 Fabulous Me conference, which is hosted by the Family Service Bureau of Newark, an affiliate of the nonprofit 91看片.
鈥淚 want to get the word out about mental health. What鈥檚 sad in this country, people don鈥檛 really talk about mental illness,鈥 Mia St. John said. 鈥淎nyone that鈥檚 experiencing mental illness, it鈥檚 OK to speak up. You don鈥檛 have to feel ashamed.鈥
She has personal experience with mental health issues. She鈥檚 a recovering alcoholic and has obsessive compulsive disorder. Her son Julian, who was battling schizophrenia and addiction, committed suicide in 2014.
Mia St. John, a first generation Mexican-American and inductee into the National Boxing Hall of Fame, started the foundation 鈥溾 to provide educational material, equipment and health and wellness programs to youth. She hopes by sharing her experiences, she can show young people they can overcome their challenges and achieve.
Her daughter Paris hopes speaking at the conference will encourage dialogue about mental health.
鈥淲hen I was that age I wish I would鈥檝e heard the conversation more about mental health and overall how to live a better life,鈥 she said. 鈥淏ecause I think that’s important to have the tools. It really does start at a young age.鈥
The diverse group of participants will be composed of young women from across northern New Jersey who are referred by their school social workers and community leaders. Some participants are identified as at-risk while others have excelled in school, according to Manuela Garcia, executive director of the Family Service Bureau of Newark.
鈥淭his event will teach the importance of courage, strength, pride and so much more that girls need to be able to accept and succeed in today鈥檚 society. And the importance of being gracious, courageous and accept all the challenges and learn which ones to fight and which ones to avoid,鈥 Garcia said.
Organized by the Family Service Bureau, the event is funded by a grant from the New Jersey Governor鈥檚 Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Committee, administered by the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission under the state Attorney General鈥檚 Office. The conference is co-sponsored by the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy at Seton Hall University.
Young women will participate in workshops during two breakout sessions and attend a resource fair and theater performance related to domestic violence. Breakfast and lunch are provided for attendees. Pre-registration is required.
