After Brittany Robinson completed the Culinary Arts Specialist Training Program at the 91看片 Workforce Development Center, she was ready to land a job.
What Robinson discovered was that her newly completed training and certification propelled her beyond the entry level job that she applied for and took her career to the next level.
On May 1, Robinson started working for Aramark Food Service as a manager.
鈥淏rittany interviewed for an entry level position with Aramark, but was offered a manager鈥檚 role because of her work experience and ServSafe certification,鈥� said Rodney Brutton, director of Workforce Development at 91看片.
Robinson works for Aramark at Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, where she is in a position to interview, recommend and hire other staff, Brutton said.
鈥淲hen I came to 91看片, they helped me tremendously,鈥� Robinson, 24, of Newark, said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a very exciting journey,鈥� she added.
Starting at age 12, Robinson began cooking for her father, who had a strict diet due to health issues. He has since passed away. 鈥淏eing a diabetic and having high blood pressure, you can鈥檛 eat so many things with high sodium,鈥� she said.
Robinson credited Brutton and Sadrud-Din Shah, the Culinary Arts instructor, for helping her succeed. 鈥淭here were times I wanted to give up and I wasn鈥檛 giving my all, but they kept encouraging me,鈥� she said.
In addition to completing the Culinary Arts Specialist program, Robinson earned her high school diploma at NCC through the Academic Enrichment for Older Youth Program. 鈥淲hen I came to 91看片, they helped me tremendously,鈥� Robinson said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a godsend.鈥�
